2023 — General review recommendations St. Maarten. Sub-inspection 4: Bureau Internal Affairs; Police education; Use of force.

This report is the fourth in a series of sub-inspections reviewing the implementation of recommendations concerning justice in St. Maarten. It focuses on the internal affairs bureau of the Sint Maarten Police Force (BIZ), police education, and the use of force by and against the police. The review finds that out of 30 recommendations, 20 were fully implemented, 4 were partially implemented, and 6 were not implemented. While progress has been made, significant issues remain, particularly in the areas of police training, resource allocation, and the proper handling of internal investigations. The report emphasizes the need for continued oversight and action to ensure that the remaining recommendations are fully addressed.
