2014 — Use of violence by and against the Police in St. Maarten.

This report contains the results of the inspection in Sint Maarten into the use of force by the police. The use of force against the police was also inspected. The inspection shows that the use of violence, verbal abuse and disproportionate violence by and against the police is not a structural problem in St. Maarten, but it is a point of attention. If investments are made in skills training and knowledge of police officers and complaints and reports from citizens are adequately addressed, the chance that violence will be used correctly will increase.
