2022 — Duration of criminal cases

By investigating the processing time of criminal cases, the Council aims to determine to what extent the investigative authorities are organized to complete criminal cases within a set period in order to prevent, as much as possible, the reasonable period laid down in treaties, case law and the law exceeded. The purpose of this research is to better guarantee the aforementioned right of persons (Article 6 ECHR, first paragraph) who come into contact with the law and to improve the functioning of the legal system, strengthening the investigation chain. The investigation shows, among other things, that the investigative authorities within the chain do not keep specific records of the duration of investigations.
