2016 — Traffic control in Curaçao: an investigation with a focus on traffic safety
CuraçaoJune 2017Report
Filed under: Investigation & Prosecution Management
This inspection concerns a study to determine to what extent traffic controls contribute to traffic safety. This theme was chosen by the Council due to the fact that a large part of the population in Curaçao either as a driver of a vehicle or as a passenger or pedestrian participates in traffic and benefits from optimal enforcement of traffic standards. The most striking result of this study is the fact that there is no cooperation between key entities in traffic road safety optimally and to reduce the number of traffic victims. First of all the draft legislation (national ordinance and implementation decrees) in which various topics that are important to efficiently enforce the prioritized themes have not yet been adopted. Furthermore, there is a lack of cooperation between the partners lack of adequate resources. Moreover, the infrastructure and controls are in place room for improvement.
