2016 — Inspection of the task performance of the confiscation team in Curaçao

CuraçaoApril 2017Report
This inspection report on the Curaçao seizure team emphasizes the effective integrated approach in which various organizations work together to seize criminal assets. The team works from one location, with a shared vision and objectives, and uses complementary powers of the members. Success factors are good internal communication, efficient coordination, mutual trust and flexibility. Seized goods are sold quickly, which helps finance operations. The team has shown that crime does not pay and enjoys growing support from the media and society. Future expansion of expertise and manpower is recommended. The Council concludes that although measurable goals are lacking and a financial return has not yet been achieved, the signal is clearly being sent that crime does not pay. The Council compliments the collection team and the Public Prosecution Service for their successes and rapid results.
