2012 — Probation in Curaçao
CuraçaoDecember 2013Report
Three institutions are involved in the probation process for adults: the Central Probation College, the prison, and the Curaçao Probation Foundation (Stichting Reclassering Curaçao). The cooperation between the institutions is good. However, this collaboration is not formalized. Although the monitoring group has no formal basis, its contribution to the advisory and decision-making process of probation (VI) or early release (ET) is highly valuable. The government's decision to transfer the responsibilities of the Curaçao Probation Foundation to a newly established implementation organization within the government structure is, according to the Council, conducive to the probation activities. The Council observes that attention to the social reintegration and development of detainees is lacking, as well as the number of available (external) jobs for detainees and the acceptance of ex-detainees in society.
